I’m photographing an amazing woman named Michelle.  Michelle is battling stage 4 (but curative) colon cancer and I am working with her right now to document her journey.  Although she’s resting in bed in this image, Michelle is feisty, fiery and full of the most amazing creative energy.  She’s an artist that paints and works with all kinds of media and she makes me laugh all of the time when I’m with her.  She also teaches me all kinds of things about art, life, religion, spirituality, books, love, life and what it’s like to live with this disease and wonder what the outcome might be.  I have lots to say about Michelle and I feel so fortunate to know her.  She has added so much to my life and I can only hope I’m doing something for her, too.

I love this image because it gives you a glimpse into Michelle’s space.  She’s written positive messages all over her mirrors, she has prayer lines and a beautiful altar by her bedroom window.  Lance Armstrong is on the wall and so is a joke about how “things could always be worse.”

Michelle is truly a remarkable woman and I’m looking forward to posting more images from our time together.
