Sometimes freelancing ain’t as great as they say—but it can be

I love being a freelancer. For the most part, I set my own hours and work from wherever I want, and sometimes I even get to pick and choose the projects I want to do. And while I’m grateful to do what I do, sometimes freelancing ain’t all cotton candy and rainbows.

There are days when I wake up, take my dog for a walk, eat breakfast, catch up on emails, work on a proposal, get some project work done, eat a late lunch, and then… wait… it’s actually dinner time. I’ve been in the house all day long. It’s been productive, yeah, but I kinda feel like a hermit. And I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. It’s days like those when I wish I had some of the “perks” of working in an office. The water cooler chit chat. Lunch buddies. Happy hours. Hell, even a “Secret Santa” or a co-worker’s daughter to buy girl scout cookies from would be awesome.

So with that in mind, I’m starting PerkMe—a new web site that brings freelancers together to enjoy the social benefits usually reserved for the office crowd. If this sounds like something you’re excited about, then you should definitely sign-up here. The launch page went live today, and I’ve already had a great response from freelancers around the country. It’s in the super early stages, but I’m psyched to build a new community and make life as a freelancer more social for all of us. Thanks to everyone for helping spread the word!
