Happy New Year from Hobart, Tasmania.
We’ve got an hour left of 2011, better make it a good one.
Here’s to my new motto for 2012, which I found on the label of a wine bottle I was drinking from tonight:
“Drink me. Drink me now. I’m young. Match me. I’ll show you my bold, fruity characters.”
Cheers.
The Sydney to Hobart yacht arrivals. What an accomplishment! Cool having seen them start out from Sydney on Boxing Day and now arriving in Hobart 4 days later.
We just saw Jessica Watson’s boat roll in, the girl who sailed solo around the world when she was 16. She’s now 18 and this was her first Sydney to Hobart race. Her seamates threw her into the water when they pulled in. Pretty fun.
Had an awesome afternoon, sailing the beautiful Gordon River in Western Tasmania. That on the right is Sarah Island, one of the infamous penal colonies of the early 1800’s.
I even got to captain the boat for a little bit. All those passengers lives in my hands. Well in one hand because there was a glass of wine in the other.
Found out today that the air on the Western coast of Tassie is the cleanest in the world, and it is what all air pollution is measured against. How cool! I breathed it in real good. It felt like a thousand angels massaging my lungs.
Took this panorama with the iPhone app Photosynth, if you’re wondering.
Off to Hobart tomorrow…
