Saturday was spent as a volunteer photographer for NY Cares. I was assigned to shoot a full day at HS 296, a high school on 50th St. 112 volunteers showed up to paint murals for the school’s hallways and classrooms.
I had a really great time, and it was a thrill to take my new camera for its first ride. This baby does not disappoint!
When I had a free moment I snuck into a classroom to take this shot. A few others from the day are to follow.
First self-portrait with my new camera.
I don’t even know how to use the thing yet. It is entirely intimidating and totally awesome.
Pretty excited.
Mum and Dad were here this weekend, all the way from Australia.
We went to a concert, ate a couple massive dinners, took in a show, went for walks in my neighborhood, had a nice brunch and hiked across a bridge.
They are on their way home now, but I’m really looking forward to seeing them again in just 6 short weeks. This time it will be me making the long trip.
Robert De Niro and myself, casually hanging out at the Oak Room at the Plaza.
It’s like I didn’t even see him there! I was just chatting with my friend, Ariel.
This was after the NY Film Festival’s centerpiece screening of Precious. That film is incredible. Really powerful and leaves you a more than a little shaken. Mo’Nique’s performance is outta this world. Anyway, go see it if you get the chance.
And as for Bob and I…we’re getting lunch next week. No we’re not. But maybe.
Someone’s chucks, plus a ripple from the bus.

Quite often on these excursions, Mel and I will find ourselves shooting the same subject. I’m always interested to see how different our perspectives are.
As for this one, she totally kicked my ass. Here’s my failure.
Well done, Murphy. Well done.
