here is a portion, a collection of my life.
some of it has to do with travel. a lot of it has to do with photos. a bit of family, a bit of friends. a whole bunch of nonsense, really.
drop me a line sometime, i would love to hear from you: laurenfarmer (dot) blog (at) gmail (dot) com

A new thing that I do is linger outside this house (a house!) in Brooklyn Heights, hoping to meet its owners who will undoubtedly take me in. And by take in I mean to live, not just to have a sticky beak (or a look around, to the non-Australians).
No success, yet. But soon.
Stood out in the freezing cold the other night and took some photos of the ‘New York by Gehry’ building downtown.
It’s the tallest residential building in the Western Hemisphere, and it’s new to New York since I last lived here.
That streak of light on its side is from the moooooon.
Walked through Times Square tonight for the first time since moving back. Looks just as I remember it.
Sometimes freelancing ain’t as great as they say—but it can be
I love being a freelancer. For the most part, I set my own hours and work from wherever I want, and sometimes I even get to pick and choose the projects I want to do. And while I’m grateful to do what I do, sometimes freelancing ain’t all cotton candy and rainbows.
There are days when I wake up, take my dog for a walk, eat breakfast, catch up on emails, work on a proposal, get some project work done, eat a late lunch, and then… wait… it’s actually dinner time. I’ve been in the house all day long. It’s been productive, yeah, but I kinda feel like a hermit. And I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. It’s days like those when I wish I had some of the “perks” of working in an office. The water cooler chit chat. Lunch buddies. Happy hours. Hell, even a “Secret Santa” or a co-worker’s daughter to buy girl scout cookies from would be awesome.
So with that in mind, I’m starting PerkMe—a new web site that brings freelancers together to enjoy the social benefits usually reserved for the office crowd. If this sounds like something you’re excited about, then you should definitely sign-up here. The launch page went live today, and I’ve already had a great response from freelancers around the country. It’s in the super early stages, but I’m psyched to build a new community and make life as a freelancer more social for all of us. Thanks to everyone for helping spread the word!

Love this idea! Excited to support and be a part of my friend Rob’s new project.
About 1 in every 36 people living in the United States resides in New York City.
Plenty of room!

Tumblr Mix Tape Exchange Returns!
It’s been over a year and yet the masses continue to cry out for more! Back by popular demand:
The Tumblr Mix Tape Exchange
Here’s how this will work:
- Reblog This
- If you want to take part send your Tumblr URL, and mailing address to tumblrmixtapeexchange@gmail.com by Wednesday, April 11th.
- On Saturday, April 14th, I will send everyone the tumblr name, email, and mailing address of the person they will make a mix tape for.
- Send the mix tape by Saturday, April 21st, and then anxiously await yours.
Want to talk about it? Tag your posts: Tumblr Mix Tape Exchange
Obviously, the mailing deadline is honors system, and having your partners email address should help with being able to contact each other if you don’t receive a mix, but that’s not going to happen. Don’t leave your partner hanging!
*I keep saying mix tape, and clearly I mean mix cd, but if you want to send a tape go right ahead. I would recommend you make sure the person who receives it has a tape player first

I’m in, and you should be too. Let’s share tunes.
I’m going on an epic at-sea adventure in June with some friends. We’ve all picked sailing names.
Mine is Klausy, B-squad leader.
My Morning Jacket: Wordless Chorus
Can’t wait to see these guys at the Newport Folk Festival this summer.
